Old Business

Student & Parent Recruiting Flyer and Student Recruiting Flyer Dispersement -  Tom Boord has given flyers to Opstad, an email flyer to NBE and he will contact SES

a.       PTSA bylaw review – PTSA starts the nominating process at the beginning of April and votes at the end of April.  We are not interested in aligning Music Boosters with this schedule because PTSA is winding down around April and Music Boosters goes strong until the final concert held in June, the amendment will stay as it is (see MB Board minutes 05/12/09)

New Business.

a.       PTSA Liaison Report – Linda Young - PTSA is still in need of board members

b.      Nominating Committee Report - Sandy Heaslett – Sandy will create a nominating form and send it to Mr. Wenman to send out by this Friday.  Nominations due by June 1st

1.      Current Board Members – are all returning parents who enjoy serving in the club and each one is most interested in the greater good of the Music Boosters whether this means that they return in their present role on the board or not.  Angela Barrus, Secretary would prefer to be an Executive Committee Member than the Secretary.

2.      5th Grade Parents – need to know of the nominations for board positions, the flyers should accomplish this task, also everyone is encouraged to make personal contacts

3.      6th and 7th Grade Parents – will learn via the website (Ray), email to Music Boosters (Angela), everyone is also encouraged to make personal contacts

4.      Choir parents – the board is in need of  a choir parent or two, Mr. Wenman will send a letter out to choir parents explaining the nominations, deadline and the need for choir representation

5.      Executive Committee Member positions (2009-2010) will determine what their focus will be with the new board.  It was determined that dividing up responsibilities will help improve the function of the MB

c.       Band recruiting video - Ray Woods – permission was granted for us to personalize and use this recruiting DVD.  Ray has put Mr. Wenman’s contact information and is currently working on inserting TFMS photos/footage

1.      Mr. Wenman will see if it can be shown to the 5th graders when they visit TFMS on June 5th

2.      If this isn’t possible a copy will be given to every 5th grade teacher (best to deliver in time to show before they finalize their choices for next year)

3.      If this is possible a copy of the DVD may or may not be given to the 5th grade teachers TBD by Mr. Wenman and R   ay

Upcoming Events

a.        Music Showcase Thursday, June 18th 7:00 pm - Ramona Haskin – gave an overview of the plans that she, Mr. Wenman and the committee have set (committee members are Donnetta Whitely, Linda Young, Rebecca Jacobs).  This is a performance, not your average band/choir concert.  All of the bands and choirs will be performing, sometimes, at the same time.  That night will be a celebration of everything that our students, and parents, have worked for all year.  Both the commons and gym will be decorated to reflect that thought.  The Commons will be a set up with tables and chairs for socializing before and after the performance.  The performance will be in the gym.  We will be offering a Raffle, which prizes include 8th Grade Band Director for a Song, Bite of Seattle Tour tickets, and a Gifts From Around the Valley Basket. Following the performance, the families and performers will be invited into the Commons to enjoy a Dessert Reception/Celebration to socialize and watch a photo slide show presentation.  The North Bend Theater has offered to include our advertisement poster in their ‘before the movie advertisement slide show’ for free.  The advertisement will also be in the newspaper on June 10th.   We are encouraged to hand out and post flyers and focus on inviting 5th grade teachers from the 3 elementary schools to attend.

1.       Award Presentations

·         8th Grade Band Member of the Year Award, 1 male & 1 female (chosen by their peers, under specific criteria from Mr. Wenman, as to not be a popularity contest.  The kids will be filling out nomination-like forms, which list the criteria, but the student must also like why they think the person they are nominating should win.) – 2 awards

·         8th Grade Choir Member of the Year Award, 1 male & 1 female (chosen by their peers, under specific criteria from Mr. Wenman, as to not be a popularity contest.  The kids will be filling out nomination-like forms, which list the criteria, but the student must also like why they think the person they are nominating should win.) – 2 awards

·         Band Director’s Award (8th Grade)

·         Choir Director’s Award (8th Grade)

Mr. Wenman is considering doing a certificate for;

·         Most Improved 6th Grade Band Member

·         Most Improved 6th Grade Choir Member

·         Most Improved 7th Grade Band Member

·         Most Improved 7th Grade Choir Member

There are so many students that have improved so much, that he might save recognizing them for another time.
