Matt Wenman, Director of Music

  • 25 new kids in 7th grade choir.  Probably due to encouragement at the end of their 6th grade year—friends asking friends to join
  • Seeing greater level of ability in the 7th and 8th grade groups due to the training received last year.
  • Discussed why band/choir is good for kids—Choir is a very personal experience because the voice is a personal instrument, versus the band experience.
  • Recommended a book called “Your Brain on Music”.  Discusses research on what music does to the brain
  • There are state assessment standards for kids in music—they weren’t done last year, and probably will be conducted this year.

Feedback

  • Can you put a list of music instructors for private lessons on the website?
  •  I’d like to see a session on how to buy and instrument—who and where to go to.
